13 Apr The Currency of Reliability

Value is a complex concept. It sits somewhere between the tangible and the perceived, and adding it to a business is about more than just bank balances and asset sheets. There are many currencies to be considered in business value, but I want to talk a little about the currency of reliability.
You may have the most innovative ideas, the sharpest talent and be miles ahead of the market, but if what you offer is not reliable then your business lacks a stable foundation.
Longevity in an industry depends on reliability. Salesforce are at the forefront of the cloud platform industry because their performance and security have proven dependable. You give your parcels to UPS because you know that they will get to where they need to go. I once dropped my old Nokia off of a roller coaster, put it back together and made a call.
Demonstrating to others that they can depend on you, on your products or services, is as good as pounds in the pocket. For the DNOs I partner with, it isliterally pounds in the pocket through the RIIO ratings system. You can’t prevent every catastrophe, but you can mitigate the loss and chaos caused by it – projecting an image of reliability to both customers and partners.
Because reliability is a key element of desirability, and desirability is value.
One thing I’ve learned is that investment in your reputation always pays off.
